The Merc Co+op is excited to announce the recipients of the 2024 Change for our Community program.
Our Change program gives shoppers the opportunity to donate their pocket change to local community organizations each time they shop. Each month, The Merc Co+op chooses a different Change recipient and all donations collected that month go to that specific organization.
A committee of co-op employees selected organizations from a pool of more than 30 local applications to be featured at the registers in Lawrence in 2024. Those organizations are:
January — Native Lands Restoration Collaborative
February — 100 Good Women
March — Children's Learning Center
April — Growing Food Growing Health (GFGH)
May — Ballard Center
June — Habitat for Humanity
July — Full Circle Tenant Services
August — Lawrence Humane Society
September — Community Children’s Center
October — Children's Advocacy Center
November — Lawrence Meals On Wheels
December — Giving Tree Adopted Families
In Kansas City, one organization is selected for the year. The Hub Argentine, Inc. is a non-profit organization in the Argentine neighborhood of Kansas City, KS. Our mission is to connect people to their gifts, neighbors, faith and culture, vital resources for health and wholeness, stories, and joy.
The co-op’s charitable giving program Change for our Community is celebrating ten years of giving back to the community. Since it began in January 2014, Change has raised more than $690,000 for over fifty local organizations.
Change for our Community offers four ways to give.
Round Up: Round the amount of your order up to the next dollar and the difference will be redirected to this month's Change recipient.
Bag Refunds: Bring your own bag, and the 5 cent bag refund will be redirected to the Change recipient.
Change Jars: Drop your spare change into the jars at our cash registers. (Lawrence location)
