Board of Directors

The Merc Co+op's Board of Directors is comprised of nine co-op owners who are elected by the general ownership and serve a three-year term. Any co-op owner can run for a board position.

The board works closely with the General Manager, who provides them with regular reports on store operations — finances, customer satisfaction, and more. The board doesn’t make operational decisions (like what specific products we carry, or overseeing co-op employees); in other words, they don’t have to be grocers to participate on the board! Their role is to monitor and guide the vision of the co-op and progress towards that vision. The board creates a set of policies to govern themselves and the GM.

Any owner can run for the board, and board benefits include a 15% discount on all your store purchases! Annual elections take place in the fall.

Board Meetings

All co-op owners are invited to attend monthly board meetings. Early in the agenda, the board reserves space to hear from owners who wish to address the board. Meetings are typically virtual, the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. There are quarterly hybrid in-person meetings, which alternate between the two store locations.
